The history of Bourbon Braque can be traced back to 1598. The first description of the breed dates back to the Renaissance: the Italian naturalist Ulisse Aldrovandi, in his book Natural History, sketched a spotted dog, which he called Canis Burbonensis – “Dog from Bourbon”.

Despite this, the exact origin of the Bourbon Braque is unknown. Experts consider it one of the oldest European shorthair breeds. It most likely originated from the hunting dogs of northern Spain and southern France.

Until the 20th century, Bourbon Braque was virtually unknown outside of France. It was not until the 1930s that the breed began to gain popularity in Europe: in 1925, the Bourbon Braque Club was created, which ceased to exist after the Second World War.

By 1970, the breed could have completely disappeared, if not for the breeders who undertook to restore it. This process is still going on.

Bourbon bracque is a great hunter, he is especially famous for his diligence and dedication. Also, representatives of the breed are perfect for the role of a family pet. These affectionate and sociable dogs quickly become attached to all family members, but most of all they are, of course, devoted to their owner.

Executive and attentive Bourbon Bracchi are capable students. They strive to please the owner in everything. At the same time, it is better not to rely on light training – some pets are not averse to playing and are often distracted during training. So, if the owner has little experience in raising hunting dogs, it is better to seek help from a cynologist.

The Bourbon Braque is a trusting and sociable dog, which makes him not a very good guard and protector of the house. He treats strangers with interest and curiosity. And, although the dog rarely makes contact first, it certainly will not become a dangerous obstacle for intruders.

The Bourbon Braque is gentle with children, but cannot be a nanny. He gets along best with school-age children. As for the animals in the house, representatives of the breed easily get along with relatives.

The short coat of the Bourbon Braque does not require much grooming. It is enough to comb your pet once a week with a stiff brush. These dogs shed in autumn and spring, at which time the procedure should be carried out twice a week.
